The RSP-520 is the second in family of XMC modules developed by Rosta and in compliance with VITA specification 42.0 (“XMC”), VITA 42.3 (“XMC PCI Express Protocol Layer Standard”), standards ANSI/VITA 39-2003 (“PCI-X for PMC and Processor PMC“), ANSI/VITA 32-2003 (“Processor PMC”), IEEE 1386.1 PMC (“PCI Mezzanine Card") and PICMG 2.15 R1.0: ECN 2.15–1.0-001 (10/100/1000 Ethernet MDI Links on PTMCs).

The RSP-520 utilizes two Xilinx Virtex-4FX and LX FPGA devices; the first one used as System and another one as User FPGA. The devices packaged in a FF1152 and 1148 BGA (Ball Grid Array). The Xilinx Virtex-4FX family is available in 60-100 and Virtex-4LX in 80-100-160 variants. The particular device required can be specified at the time of ordering.

The 128 MB DDR SDRAM and16 MB FLASH memory blocks connected to System FPGA which is to control and load User FPGA. The external interfaces can be implemented by the loading the required IP core into System FPGA.

The standard XMC connectors Р11-Р15 provide PCI-X and PCI-Express, control SMBus and two Gigabit Ethernet. Three user defined pins of the P14 connector are connected directly to the System FPGA and can be used for various I/O functions including LED indication with Rosta manufactured carrier boards i.e. the RMB-407.

The System and User FPGA connected by two buses: wide 139 lines Local Bus for data interconnect and 5 lines Control Bus for User FPGA booting. The FPGAs connected by JTAG chain, the I/O JTAG connector is on board.

The EM (Extra Mezzanine) Slot Type 3 allows installing thin mezzanine card with memory connected to User FPGA and it extends facilities of using different type of memories.

The serial control bus (SMBus) is connected to Р14, P15 and EM connectors and the set of auxiliary blocks (Control and Clock Manager, ID ROM etc.) are connected to the SMBus. The set of LEDs connected to both FPGA.

The RSP-520 can be used standalone or as a slave with a host-controller . The RSP-520 is supplied with MS Windows XP and Linux drivers.
